Information about driving license training

When you get your driver's license, you must take it according to a carefully planned program. The state has determined the order in which you must learn the different modules and how much time you must spend on each module.

When you start getting your driving license, you will be given a lesson plan. You will therefore always be able to see what you have to do next. Whether it is a theory or a practical lesson, and what you have to learn in the different modules.

Once you have attended a few theory lessons, you will go to the driving range. This is a closed track where you will learn how to operate the car. You will sit alone in the car while the driving instructor is out on the track. From here, he will help you complete the course as best as possible.

When he doesn't sit next to you, it's not because he doesn't want to or doesn't dare. It's because it's clearly the best way to learn. And don't worry, this is definitely not a race you're going to participate in. Most of the time you'll be driving so slowly that the instructor can walk next to you.

Once you have been on the maneuvering course, you will return to the theory room. Here you will complete one or two lessons – depending on how the lesson plan is structured.

After that, you will go out on the road for the first time. The rest of the course alternates between theory and practice. This way, you will incorporate practical driving along with the theory.

To be allowed to take the theory test, you must first have a medical certificate from your own doctor. Bring a passport-sized photo of yourself. You will need the medical certificate when you book your theory test.

Today, you must complete a first aid course to get a driver's license. It's an eight-hour course where you learn how to remedy a situation if you are involved in or witness a traffic accident.

You must be able to help the injured until the real help arrives.

Once you have been on the maneuvering track, received a medical certificate and participated in a first aid course, you must submit documentation of this to your driving instructor. He will contact Citizens' Service, which will approve you so that you can book a theory test. There may be a waiting time to get to the theory test, so book it well in advance before you have completely finished the course.

As part of the final part, you will have a driving technique course on a slippery road. Here you will learn how to perform emergency braking, evasive maneuvers and correct the car if it skids on slippery roads. It is a very educational, but also a demanding course. That is why it is one of the last in the course. You must have experience in changing gears and starting, so that you can concentrate on the driving technique.

The theory test

The theory test takes place at the Danish Road Traffic Authority and consists of 25 pictures of different scenarios that you may encounter as a driver of a car. You are told how fast you are driving, or where you are going. And then you have to answer some questions. These could be: How do you want to continue? What should you pay special attention to? You can answer either “yes” or “no” to each of the questions.

You can have errors in up to five pictures to pass the theory test.

Good advice for the theory test

The driving test

Once you have passed your theory test, your driving instructor will book a driving test for you with a driving instructor. The driving test takes about 45 minutes. Before you drive, the driving instructor will ask you some technical questions about the car. You will then drive around for about half an hour. When you return, he will tell you whether you have passed or failed. If you have passed, you will be issued a temporary driving license immediately. You now have a driving license. 🙂
The validity of a temporary driving license ends when the original driving license is issued. Temporary driving licenses are only valid in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden

No driving license without a theory test and driving test

Before you have a valid driving license in your hand, there are two tests you must pass: the practical driving test and the theory test.

But before you are ready for these exams, you must go through various modules, which are carefully organized so that it is more or less the same for everyone.

At the start of the course, you will be given a lesson plan so that you can keep track of what you need to do next time.

Driving license training constantly alternates between driving and theory, so you can experience the theory out in traffic. It provides the best learning when you immediately get to try the theory out in practice.

Theory is rote learning and since there is a lot to remember, it is a good idea to practice at home as well. You will be informed about the possibility of this during your driving license training.

From playpen to driving test

The training starts with a few lessons in driving theory and then you have to go out to drive for the first time. But don't worry, it's on a closed track and at a slow pace. At the same time, there is contact with the driving instructor all the time, even though you have to drive the car yourself. You will be guided all the way. This driving on a maneuvering track is colloquially called the "crawler's yard".

You will quickly learn how to operate and steer the car. This is where it gets really fun, because once you have mastered the maneuvering course, you are ready to be released into traffic with the driving instructor.

Before the driving license theory test

After the maneuvering course, you get a few lessons in theory and from there it's on to the road. Now you're well-stabilized with both practice and theory. And that's how the rest of the lessons go until you get your driver's license.

The first test you must pass is the theory test.

Before that, you must have passed an 8-hour first aid course, have had a passport photo taken, and you must have obtained a medical certificate from your own doctor, which you must hand in to the driving instructor. This is necessary in order to be able to book an appointment for your theory test, which can be booked at Borgerservice.

Driving license theory – this is what you will learn

Your driving theory consists of traffic rules and the many different situations you may encounter as a driver. You will learn about the many signs in traffic, what stripes and markings on the road mean and you will become aware of situations in traffic that you have not previously given a thought to.

How the theory test is conducted

A theory test consists of 25 different scenarios that you can experience as a driver out in traffic.

These are just a selection of the many situations you will experience out there, but they give a good insight into how knowledgeable you are in your theory.

Here you must answer a minimum of 20 questions correctly. If you do, you have passed your theory test. If you fail, you can always take it again. However, it costs money each time.

How long does a driving test take?

Once you have completed your driving lessons, which in addition to regular driving in various places, also include slippery road driving, where you learn to maneuver the car on slippery roads, and passed your theory test, you are ready for the final test, the driving test.

But how does a driving test work?

A driving test takes about 45 minutes in total and you have to drive for 25 minutes. During the 25 minutes you will be told what to do and when. In the same way as when the driving instructor guides you during driving lessons.

But you will also be asked some questions that you must be able to answer. If you can't, you won't pass your driving test. You will learn these questions during your driving theory.

The test expert's task is to assess whether your driving and behavior in traffic is safe enough to let you practice on your own.

Because once you have your driver's license, your training starts right away.
